Whether you live in Hendersonville or are planning a visit, October 22, 2016 will be your last chance to snap a photo of yourself or someone else with one of the colorful bears that are currently displayed along Main Street in downtown Hendersonville. The Bearfootin’ Public Art Walk was started in 2002 as a fun way to raise money for local charities. Since its inception, it has raised more than $220,000 for a variety of local charities. In early spring, twenty or more fiberglass, hand painted bears appear on Main Street covered with a cloth to be unveiled one by one during a festive ceremony. Each bear is created by a local artist and sponsored by a local business. After the big reveal, they are placed along the downtown sidewalks for locals and visitors alike to admire at any time day or night. They will remain there until October when they will be auctioned off to the highest bidder. This year the auction will be held on October 22 in the Flat Rock Playhouse on Main Street. Registration and music begins at 2:30 with the auction beginning at 4:30. For more information view the Bearfootin’ Bears Brochure.
