My husband is obsessed with craft beer, so when Sierra Nevada opened its doors in Mills River, he was one of the first to visit. I did not accompany him since I don’t drink beer. I have since discovered how I missed out on an amazing experience. Sierra Nevada is more than a brewery. It is a destination in itself.

We visit frequently now and it is a must see for our numerous visitors, young and old alike. There is something to do for everyone. You begin to feel how special Sierra Nevada is as soon as you drive through the gates of the 200 acre property situated beside the French Broad River. One can’t help but be impressed at the first sight of the brewery. It is magnificent.

You might begin your visit in the taproom where you can not only taste a large variety of Sierra Nevada beers on tap, but also enjoy the tapas menu prepared by the phenomenal chefs. The menu changes seasonally and uses many herbs and vegetables grown on the grounds. It is truly a culinary feast.

Maybe you are interested in taking one of the various tours or wandering around and discovering the unique features of Sierra Nevada by yourself. The “backyard” is the family area with an outdoor bonfire, rocking chairs, a concert venue, gardens, corn-hole, and bocce ball courts and a play area for kids. It is very family friendly. Walking trails meander through the property. A 300 seat concert venue is scheduled to open in the fall above the taproom. Lastly, make sure you visit the gift shop to take home a souvenir of your visit.
